Healing Through Art

Collages I made 3/4/22

Getting connected to my creative side.

This week I have been very focused on allowing myself permission to be the creative person I am. I have started working through The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, which is a program that can help someone find their artistic self again (it has some really cool exercises in it, if you’re the kind of person who loves writing prompts and reflecting).

It has been a very healing process so far and I have enjoyed looking deeper into my journey of creativity.

In looking back into my past I’ve noticed that my personal negative beliefs surrounding art and creativity are beliefs that came from other people and society as a whole. Those beliefs are not mine, despite them feeling that way at times.

I am writing again. I am painting again. I am collaging again.

I am even slowly starting to feel like myself again.

I’ve found that through creating, I feel closer to my authentic self.

Sure, negative thoughts like you’re not good enough, you can’t make a career out of doing art , and you’re just kidding yourself pop up from time to time.

I’m now trying to reframe those thoughts and change them into positives. I am good enough. I can make a career out of doing art. I’m not kidding myself, I can really do this. I am doing this.

In making this one change, I’ve already felt more at peace with my creative process, and more connected with my younger self.

If you’ve ever felt disconnected from creating or doing the things you love, ask yourself why.

If your why is based on fear of judgement from others (like mine is), then try not to let the thoughts and opinions of other people rule your creative life. This is so hard to do and also so incredibly worth it.

You are amazing just the way you are.

You are deserving of happiness and creativity in your life.

Now, go and be the marvelous creative human you are.

XOXO
