11 Steps to Gender Euphoria

Note that these are all my personal experiences as a non-binary gender queer human, and this varies for all humans who struggle with gender dysphoria and are seeking gender euphoria.

  1. You hate the name you were given at birth so you change it to an inanimate object because you don’t feel human.
  2. You try to shrink yourself so you can look like all the androgynous bois, until you realize you have to like the body you’re in.
  3. You chop off several inches of your hair and get rid of the trauma associated with it.
  4. You get a binder because you can’t stand your chest & it’ll do until you can remove them surgically.
  5. You research other trans & gender non-conforming people, and you see them loving and living their lives to the fullest. You crave that deep in your soul.
  6. You talk to a psychiatrist about the pain & nausea that comes with your red monster (period). They tell you about a hysterectomy .
  7. You feel seen, heard, accepted, and you feel a sense of hope.
  8. You realize that you can still be non-binary if you wear a dress & show femininity.
  9. You don’t try to hide your body or your shame.
  10. You accept yourself for all that you are and don’t want to shrink yourself or disappear.
  11. You realize that in being your true self, you help others to do the same and you feel whole again. You feel accepted as you are and you’re not scared anymore.
