Recommitting to this thing called recovery & getting artsy.
The more recovery time I get, the more I am learning that I need to recommit daily and remind myself that I am a person who struggles with mental illness and addiction.
I have been trying to challenge my perfectionistic mindset lately and find myself consistently reminding myself that recovery is not linear.
Slips can & will happen (it’s a part of the process, and is a part of my story).
The micro decisions I make every day truly impacts my trajectory.
I can choose to add more positive activities to my life, stay where I’m at, do nothing, or go into self sabotage mode.
For today, I’m choosing to add more activities that make me feel content.
I am choosing to lean into my recovery.
I am a big fan of playing the tape forward whenever I have a thought that isn’t aligned with my recovery, and doing that has been very helpful to me.
Recently I have learned that the more honest and open I am, the more others feel comfortable to be vulnerable with me too.
That in itself has been quite the healing experience for me and has shown me that I am not alone, and that I am fortunate to have a strong support system.
I know that no matter how hard I try to recover from my eating disorder alone, it won’t work.
I need people, connection, & support.
Lately I have been busy with my job and with 12 step recovery work (this is helpful to me but isn’t the only recovery pathway available).
With me being pretty busy, I have not posted on here in quite some time.
With that being said, I do have some very exciting news that I want to share with you before I end this post.
I was able to sign a lease and rent myself an art studio within an artist collective!
I am very excited to have a safe place outside of my job and home where I can be my creative authentic self!
I’ve definitely found a lot of healing through my art process and have learned that art is something that I truly enjoy.
I look forward to seeing all of the cool things I end up creating (and eventually selling).
Below are a few crafty projects I’ve made in the past few months.
Thanks for reading along!
Until next time…
XOXO
